Overview
Ngorongoro is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, and its floor supports one of the densest concentrations of large mammals anywhere in Africa.
Because the crater is a contained ecosystem, wildlife does not migrate away. A single day on the floor can produce lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, flamingo and — with luck — the crater's small population of black rhino.

Travel Tips
- The rim sits above 2,200 m and is genuinely cold at dawn — pack warm layers.
- Vehicles must leave the crater floor by late afternoon, so early starts matter.
- Crater fees are charged per 24 hours and are included in our quoted itineraries.
