Kilimanjaro is not a technical climb, so the deciding factor is altitude. The route you choose determines how gradually you gain it.
Lemosho and the Northern Circuit
The best acclimatisation profiles on the mountain, with quieter early days and high summit success rates. Choose these if you have seven or more days.
Machame
Scenically superb and popular for good reason, with a steeper profile that rewards a seven-day version over six.
Marangu, Rongai and Umbwe
Marangu uses huts rather than tents. Rongai approaches from the drier north. Umbwe is short, steep and for experienced trekkers only.
